BLOCK TALK
Presented by
Michael Lucker

A weekly on-line forum for writers
to get immediate answers to tough questions
during the month of April

Michael Lucker

Stuck? No longer. Now there’s a place for writers to bust any writer’s block into bits and pieces. "Why is the second act so hard to write?" "Why does my ending not feel fulfilling?" "Why does my hero’s moral battle not have emotional resonance?" This is just the tip of the iceberg every writer faces. Sometimes we can tackle these beasts ourselves in the solitude of our homes. But with a thousand questions to answer every day, sometimes it’s tough to see the forest from the trees.

That’s why there’s Block Talk. A place to get those questions answered by a real human, in real time, Saturdays at noon EST, during the month of April, right here. (To register, scroll down.)

Acclaimed writing coach, consultant and instructor Michael Lucker will be on hand to share the breadth of his experience to help you weave through the creative maze holding you back. Whether yours be epic film, romance novel or television series, join us, for the principles of storytelling remain the same. Not because Plato or Shakespeare or Spielberg say so, but because the nature of myth is inextricably related to the nature of man. So grab your joe, your pen and log in, to laugh, learn and move forward with your story.

Who is Michael Lucker?

Michael Lucker is a professional screenwriter and creative consultant with over fifteen years experience in producing film, television, animation and digital media. Driven to write as a child, he weaved songs, stories and speeches through his youth until heading north to study film and broadcasting at Boston University’s College of Communication.
After graduation he moved to Los Angeles where luck and fate collided, landing him a job as assistant to Steven Spielberg on Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade, Always, Arachnophobia and Back To The Future II. Michael then rose to Creative Affairs at Hollywood Pictures where he aided in the development of Crimson Tide, Terminal Velocity and Straight Talk. Still afflicted with a passion for the page, he left the city for the beach and embarked on a career as a screenwriter, co-writing more than twenty scripts for such studios as Paramount Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Walt Disney Pictures, DreamWorks SKG and Universal Television. Among the projects produced were Vampire In Brooklyn, Mulan II, Home On The Range, Emperor's New Groove II, 101 Dalmatians II, Black Cat and Spirit, which won the Academy Award in 2002 as best animated feature.
Always partial to the south, Michael returned home to Atlanta where he consults to acclaimed writers, award-winning producers, prominent cable companies and, most recently, to the Turner Entertainment Group in launch of its broadband comedy network Super Deluxe. He serves on the board of directors of the Georgia Writers Association, lectures at Emory University and speaks regularly to a wide variety of media organizations. In 2007 he formed High Road Pictures which serves as host to the list of projects he writes, directs, produces and consults. He currently is developing a number of original series for Turner Studios, prepping an independent feature to direct for Shadowlight Pictures and is set to break ground with partners on The Film Farm, a creative compound of office spaces for independent filmmakers in Atlanta.
